* Iran keeps economic ties with Syria

PRESS TV, Iran, January 3, 2008

Iran's ambassador to Damascus stresses the enormous potential existing between Iran and Syria for expansion of economic cooperation.

In a farewell meeting, Mohammad-Hassan Akhtari and Syrian Vice-President Faruq al-Shara conferred over reciprocal and regional issues.

The two officials stressed the necessity of close contact between Iranian and Syrian officials in order to foil enemies' conspiracies.

The Syrian vice-president commended Akhtari's efforts during the years of his mission to Syria to deepen Tehran-Damascus ties.

Vice-President for Parliamentary Affairs, Seyyed Mousavi, will replace Akhtari as Iran's new envoy to Damascus.
