SYRIA: Dubai offers Damascus $8 million news center

DAMASCUS, Dec.
24, 2007 (MENASSAT.COM) – Dr. Mohsen Bilal, the Syrian
Minister of Information, and Ahmad al-Sheikh, advisor of
Sheikh Mohamad bin Rashed Al Maktoom, Deputy Prime Minister
of Dubai, held a press conference in Damascus on Sunday,
Dec. 23 concerning a media treaty between Dubai Media
Incorporated (DMI) and the General Authority for Radio and
Television in Syria. The treaty deals with the exchange of
media experts and technical assistance between the two
countries, mainly between the DMI and the Syrian Television.
Ahmad al-Sheikh
explained some of the treaty’s details, and announced the
establishment of a highly developed news center in at the
Syrian television TV hub in time for the Arab Summit, to be
held in Damascus in March 2008.
DMI is
contributing will $8 million towards the building and
equipping of the news center in the Syrian TV, including a
high-tech TV studio worth $4 million dollars. DMI will be
responsible for the full technical equipment of the studio.
The media
assistant of his Highness Mohamad Bin Rashed Al Maktoom,
board member of DMI, said that the grant will be used to
build the news studio and to train some 20 employees of
Syrian Television, in addition to providing high-tech
equipment to Syrian TV to allow it to cover the Arab Summit
in March 2008 in Damascus, and reflect the modern state of
the Arab media in general.
He also
mentioned the cooperation between the two parties in the
light of the consultations and meetings between officials
from DMI and the Syrian TV, pointing out the cooperation in
the production of programs and series, and the assistance in
establishing a new sports channel for Syrian TV, with the
training of Syrian employees in Dubai Sports Channel.
Ahmad al-Sheikh
suggested that the cooperation between DMI and Syrian TV
might be further expanded, expressing DMI’s readiness to
help and provide technical support and training to improve
Syrian TV.
The Syrian
Minister of Information thanked his highness Sheikh Mohamad
bin Rashed Al- Maktoom, deputy prime minister, on behalf of
President Bashar Assad. |
