* US withdraws UN text backing Mideast peace process: diplomat

UNITED NATIONS, Nov 30, 2007 (AFP) - The United States on Friday withdrew a resolution it had presented to the UN Security Council backing the Annapolis conference decision to relaunch the Israeli-Palestinian peace process, said a diplomat close to the Security Council.

The reason for the withdrawal was not immediately clear, the diplomat said.

Thursday, after a Security Council session at which the United States submitted the draft, US ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad said Security Council members intended to discuss the text with the parties involved.
